Complete HEIAN/PINAN Kata Bunkai Youtube Module (Playlist)
 
We'll never know for sure what the original bunkai (applications) that Master Itosu had in mind when he created the Heian/Pinan series of Kata.  However, we can reverse-engineer the kata's and get a pretty good idea of how the movements of these katas might have been applied.

The Heian/Pinan series of kata's have become core kata's in most Karate styles, often being used in the grading syllabus.  Some people say that they were created for children, being shorter than the older kata's.  Others say that Master Itosu condensed a most of his knowledge and learning into these short succinct kata's.  I believe it is the second option and these kata's are loaded with very effective fighting/self-protection techniques and methods from this great Master.
 
I've had a number of different influences along the way and some very good practical instructors. So I'd like to share my ideas on how to apply this series of kata.  I've put together a Module (Playlist) on Youtube.
